Tiny Texas Houses @ Discovery Architectural Antiques, Gonzales, Texas

Discovery Architectural Antiques in Gonzales, Texas is a massive architectural salvage operation that has gone small and sustainable. Imagine 130,000 square feet of anything and everything that can be salvaged from old houses and buildings. So what is so small about that?

Their “new” endeavor, Tiny Texas Houses, are made from all of that architectural salvage. These unique small homes are made of 95% vintage material. But don’t worry… the electrical systems, plumbing, and insulation is new and they are built to modern codes – Tyvek and all. Some would call this the ultimate in green building: they are recycled and they will last for decades not to mention that they are all unique pieces of “House Art” AND are portable – they can be moved when you move.

They are being used for everything from minimalist homes, guesthouses, art studios, offices, exercise rooms, pool houses, etc. Your imagination is the only limit. Well, maybe you bank account is too: pricing for Tiny Texas Houses ranges from $32,000-$55,000 and higher for custom or larger models.

We wouldn’t be surprised if operations like Tiny Texas Houses crop up around the country (and world) in the coming years! There are currently others who make small houses, but those who use exclusively vintage lumber and focus on the handmade quality and details of days gone by are few and far between. Great idea!

    Hello from Asheville NC –
My family lives at Caddo lake between shreveport La and Longview TX
It is on the Texas side. My father has offered a piece of property that they own for me to build a cottage so that I have a separate place to stay while visiting and taking care of them. I wanted to build a small house that was made of recycled materials – a statement to an area that does not recycle at all. I would like to find out more about how you work and charge for your properties. I am on a limited budget so if you are marketing to the high end then I may not be the prime candidate for you – but there is a tremendous marketing opportunity in the fact hat the national park is opening…I have much more info for press opportunites. Please send me your information so that I will know how to proceed. Many thanks –
